Apple Unveils HomePod System

After the company faced growing pressure into competing with Google and Amazon’s smart speaker and voice activation devices, the company has finally unveiled on Monday a home hi-fi system that will be connected to its music streaming services.

The HomePod, priced at $350 and around seven inches high is set to be released for shipping this December comes with a deep bass design though an upward facade. It was unveiled by Apple CEO Tim Cook during the WWDC event on Monday which stated that the product was made in their aim to reinvent music at home in the way the company has invented mobile music.

The device also comes with seven beamforming microphones and a room sensing technology whose sound will adapt to whatever room the speaker will be placed. The speaker also can handle complex searches within the music library through Siri. It is also installed with a six-microphone array that will allow users to interact with the speaker from different parts of the room in the middle of the music playing.

According to Apple, the HomePod was created from taking smart features from less pricier products like the Echo from Amazon which is powered by Alexa and was incorporated with quality audio from Sonos speakers which resulted into a product that allowed the user to play music, state weather forecasts, get the latest news updates and even send texts. The HomePod also can be accessed from from through the Home application on the iPhone or iPad.

The primary concern remains to be the premium price for the product which has raised questions to whether people would be willing to pay as much for the product similar to the Google Home and Echo which sells for $129 and $180 respectively. People are also concerned if the device would be supporting other third party streaming applications such as Spotify or Youtube. Apple Music is currently the online application supported by the HomePod.

According to Apple, the HomePod is worth the price due to the combination of great, quality sound and smart features greatly comparable to the current market.

“HomePod packs powerful speaker technology, Siri intelligence and wireless access to the entire Apple Music library into a beautiful speaker that is less than 7 inches tall, can rock most any room with distortion free music and be a helpful assistant around your home.” said Apple senior vice president for Worldwide Marketing stated in a release.

He also added that Apple has reinvented portable music with iPod and now the HomePod will reinvent overall music listening experience wirelessly through the comfort of the user’s home.
